The states are listed alphabetically. The current number of states is 310 including districts. The amount of images is 1481. The districts or smaller areas are listed after the head state. An X-mark means that the state issued fiscals (adhesives) or papers. This does not mean that they are pictured in the gallery. The fourth column indicates the relative scarcity of specified state in general. This is based on appearances on market and catalogue value according to KM. 

The real value depends on denomination, condition and other signs (punched, unpunched). Mint or unused items are generally rare if exist at all. The exceptions are from very common adhesives which are relatively cheap in unused condition. 

There are several sections on each page. The first is some basic information such as location in modern districts of India, area, number of inhabitants and capital city. The listings of separate scans of types is followed by second section. The adhesives are listed first, followed by stamped papers and hundis (bills of exchange). The last section is dedicated to not recorded (not in original catalogue) items if some are known. There are some abbreviations used in table with NR items:

T - new type,  C - new color (or distinct shade),  P - new perforation (distinct differences only), V - new value and finally Var - new variety (error in design, perforation,...)

Scarcity

• 1 - very common, available in large quantities (<1 USD each)

• 2 - common, not problem to obtain (1-2 USD each)

• 3 - good -  not so easy to find (3-5 USD each)

• 4 - scarce - hard-to-find items (6-10 USD each)

• 5 - very scarce - very hard-to-find items, several offers in a year (>10 USD each)
